Founded with the goal of making as many horses as possible happier.

Bits & Behaviour is the bit fitting and behavioural training company of Laura McKinlay, and was founded in 2019. Laura holds a Masters in Veterinary Medicine from Cambridge University, and has over 25 years’ professional experience working with horses in a number of roles. She has worked with thousands of horses and has dealt with all manner of behavioural issues and symptoms in that time.

Drawing on her knowledge of behavioural theory and years of practical experience, Laura bases her work on finding out the root cause of issues. It’s easy to write off behaviour as “difficult” without getting to grips with the underlying reason. Laura looks to find the cause, and come up with a sympathetic but effective solution in each situation.

Building on this knowledge she went on to train as a bit fitter under the guidance of the UK's No 1 bitting consultant. Laura completed her training in 2019 and is now a Certified Bitting Consultant. She carries Myler, Neue Sheule, Bomber and other brands in her collection, but is not affiliated with any brands and offers completely impartial advice.

Her overall aim is to improve the lives of all the horses she meets and to educate others in how to do the same.
The map is a rough guide to the areas she covers, however Laura is happy to travel further to see multiple horses or in special circumstances. If you're not sure whether your area is covered please get in touch.
